Many aspects of genome function are regulated by the inclusion of DNA into chromatin. There are many important chromatin-associated proteins, from histone modifying enzymes like histone acetyltransferases (HATs), deacetylases (HDACs) and methyltransferases to chromatin binding proteins like HP1, which reads the “histone code”.
